Suffering from a fatal brain disorder, Trevor makes the choice to allow himself to be overwritten as the team races to invent an experimental cure.
Trevor continues to experience "breaking" episodes in which he physically freezes. He determines this to be a disorder called Early Onset Temporal Aphasia, a rare neurological disorder that comes from transferring a consciousness into a new body multiple times. As he explains it, his perception of time becomes disoriented, where a mere second to him could actually be several minutes or even hours and thus he appears to freeze to those around him.

Since Traveler 0115 and his late wife were the first two test subjects to undergo the consciousness transfer experiment, and ultimately inhabited three different bodies over the course of their lives together before 0115's wife passed away and he came to the past. The only other documented case of the condition is 0115's wife, who passed away as the episodes became longer and more frequent. Despite The Director's efforts, no known cure had been discovered in the future from which they come.

As Grant and Katheryn prepare to leave for work, Katheryn suggests they have dinner together that night since they hadn't done so in a long time. Grant agrees before taking a call from the team and leaving for work.

Meanwhile, Carly has decided to lease a new apartment on her own, enlisting Grant's help to provide a reference for her landlord. As Grant is leaving, they overhear her neighbors across the hall shouting at each other. Later, Carly meets the girlfriend as the latter is returning from the laundry room, but her boyfriend immediately opens the door and cuts off their conversation. Carly deduces that the girlfriend is in an abusive relationship; she offers the woman her support and offers to handle the boyfriend if she ever needs it.

Marcy arrives at home to find David distraught over the passing of his first client and waiting by his phone hoping to hear from any of Jim's relatives. None of them return his calls, upsetting David that nobody seems to care.

Trevor consults The Director, and they determine the best course of action is to allow Trevor to be overwritten by The Director so that Trevor's body can continue to be utilized to further the Grand Plan.

That night Grant and Katheryn have an enjoyable dinner together, which ostensibly leads to an intimate encounter. Afterwards, Katheryn tells Grant that their friends the Pattersons have invited them out on their boat. She pauses when Grant responds that he would like to meet them, replying that Grant was the one who introduced the Pattersons to her. Attempting to cover his mistake, Grant explains that he misheard Kathryn. Nevertheless, the slip arouses Katheryn's suspicions once again.

At headquarters, Grace, along with the rest of the team, is unwilling to allow Trevor to be overwritten so they embark on a plan to attempt to create a solution that 0115 had theorized in the future. Despite the inferior technology in the twenty-first century and the lack of sufficient materials, the team nevertheless determines it's the right course of action.

With the team documenting each episode Trevor experiences, Grace is able to accumulate the data that Ilsa would need to create a fractional algorithm that could anticipate and mitigate each episode. While consulting with Ilsa, The Director appears and explains to Grant and Grace that the plan to overwrite 0115 was 0115's, that their plan to treat his condition will fail, and that it'll honor the agreement it made with 0115.

Meanwhile David attempts to contact Jim's next of kin, his ex-wife, who is indifferent to Jim's passing and speaks poorly of him, upsetting David and prompting him to chastise her over the phone. Later, he rehearses a eulogy for Jim to Marcy.

Upset at the circumstances, Grace, Grant, and the rest of the team decide to proceed with their plan under the radar so that The Director could not intervene.

The procedure was successful, though when Trevor awakens following surgery he's upset that the team broke his pact with The Director. Believing he needed to uphold his end of the deal, he switches the power to the facility back on, believing The Director would overwrite him the instant it has his T.E.L.L. However, no such overwrite happens, with Trevor believing the procedure compromised the host to the point that The Director had no use for him.

David delivers his eulogy at Jim's funeral, struggling at first until Marcy arrives for support. He recalls Jim's goodness and positivity, how well he treated people, and how in a way, Jim saved David. Meanwhile, Carly begins to settle into her new apartment, Trevor struggles to cope with his situation, Philip continues to suffer some ill effects from his historical update; Grant and Katheryn visit a point along the shore.

As they look over the water, Katheryn presses Grant to share some memories he has of where they are. He recalls when he broke his arm surfing and she had to change a flat tire on her Jeep by herself, and an FBI office Christmas party when they snuck off to the shooting range. Katheryn becomes agitated, and it becomes clear she's quizzing Grant for specific information. She presses him further and he attempts to deflect her interrogation when she finally reveals that it's the spot where they met: she was 25 at the time and was angry after waiting for her then-fiancé for over an hour. Grant feebly attempts to suggest details of the day which turn out to be incorrect. She explains Grant struck up a conversation with her that day and they ended up having dinner together.

Since Grant could not properly recall that memory, Kathryn becomes convinced that Grant isn't the man she met that day and subsequently married, and walks away from him.
