Heath was immunocompromised. Boyd removed one of his lungs after a botched mission.
Heath and Boyd took broad spectrum antivirals two weeks earlier than the Core Traveler Team. Unfortunately, the injections turned out to be a bioweapon genetically engineered by The Faction, and both fell sick. Seeking Marcy Warton's assistance, Boyd took Heath to the MacLaren team safehouse.
Heath's health took a turn for the worse, as his viral count went up to over a million. He started leaking blood from his eyes and seizing. Marcy attempted to stabilize him, but he succumbed to the disease. His body was later bundled up and temporarily set aside while the Travelers went on to seek the cure.
