"Don't think the future doesn't get its hands dirty."
— Hall[src]

Sergeant Rick Hall (Traveler Number Unknown) was the team leader of his own Traveler team. Abrasive and volatile, he frequently feuded with Grant MacLaren, whom he often disparagingly called a "Boy Scout", but his loyalty to The Director and the Grand Plan was unquestionable.

Averted Death[]

Nothing is known about the circumstances that turned him into a Traveler.

Biography[]

Hall subscribed to Protocol 1 first and foremost, almost to the exclusion of the other protocols. He was annoyed at the Core Traveler Team for being more worried about their Protocol 5 lives than the mission they're currently on. His team abandoned their hosts' personal lives in order to be full-time Travelers.

All five of his team made it to the 21st century, which he claims is rarer than it appears. (S1E04: Hall)

Richard Hall[]

According to Hall's (slightly outdated) FBI profile he was 48 years old. He had a residence in Austin, Texas, a condo in Vancouver, and a warehouse in the Washington state. He had a tattoo on his left bicep, held the title of Sergeant in the US Army, and he served time in Iraq. His driver's license also listed his current residence as Portland. (S1E04: Hall)

Traveler (Number Unknown)[]

Hall was involved in a shoot-out where he was supposed to be helping a different Russian Traveler team who ended up betraying him. His teammates Luca Shun and Carter were shot, and Carter later succumbed to his injuries. Hall argued with Grant MacLaren about merging their teams together where he would be the new leader, having been in the 21st century for a greater number of years previously, though he ended up arrested alongside his one remaining team member, Luca. (S1E04: Hall)

Hall and Luca were released early from prison and turned up outside Trevor Holden's school to apprise the news to MacLaren by proxy, and also to scout Kyle, the host candidate for their new incoming Historian. Hall's first mission out of prison was to induce a miscarriage in Kathryn MacLaren to prevent her from dying in childbirth. Grant nearly assaulted him, but relented when Hall belatedly explained that he was acting on orders. (S2E09: Update)

His next known mission after that was to protect Anna Hamilton, the future 53rd President of the United States who's presently just a child. Hall pretended to be an FBI agent and forcefully abducted Anna off the street to keep The Faction from killing her. Having little patience for pretense, Hall made a deal with Anna to answer ten of her questions but unhelpfully made each of them curt and unenlightening.

Hall and his team took Anna to a remote safehouse. He noted the Director kept putting his team and the core team together and tried persuading MacLaren to tone down the tension, but MacLaren was still angry over the incident with Kathryn.

Hall completed the mission with the help of MacLaren's team, and has warmed up to Anna by the end. When Anna's parents (who became Travelers) arrived at the scene to take her away, Hall warned her father to take care of Anna or else he'll answer to him and MacLaren. The two Team Leaders shook hands before parting, with MacLaren acknowledging Hall as an "agent" and Hall teasing that it bugs the shit out of the former. (S2E10: 21C)

Following the mass abduction of Historians by the Faction, Hall was discovered by MacLaren's team unconscious and with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen. Marcy Warton used nanites to keep him alive as long as possible, although these were draining from his system from blood loss and he'd already gone beyond the point of what nanites were capable of repairing. Marcy and Victoria Boyd then performed surgery to help keep him alive for as long as possible while they kept his brain active in order to figure out what happened.

Hall found himself in an empty swimming pool initially with no memory of how he got there. He's apprised by a construct of Grant MacLaren that they're in his subconscious and he's physically connected to a black box. Annoyed that he's dying and the last person he will see was MacLaren, he told the construct to wait as he tried to remember.

Hall recalled that he and Luca went to an empty high school to collect Kyle, who wasn't answering his comm. Hall thought it was a personal run and was accordingly irritated as Kyle either was or wasn't on the team. Upon finding a bloodied comm, Hall immediately suspected the Faction and soon engaged them there in a firefight. In an alley outside the building Hall was shot from behind while he's climbing a chain-link fence. Luca and Kyle turned traitor, with Kyle being the one who shot Hall. Luca was unwilling to leave his old partner hanging up the fence, and brought Hall down before they left the scene.

Hall then remembered a place where the Faction might be holding the Historians: an abandoned juvie hall which he used to hide out with Luca in. After MacLaren got the information in the real world, Hall took a walk towards the woods outside the building in his head, and told MacLaren to save the world for him.

The core team attacked the site, resulting in the deaths of several Faction members and the rescue of the imprisoned Travelers. After the operation, Grant called Boyd to inform her that all the Historians were safe. Boyd stayed by Hall's side at Ops while the core team is away; Grant told her to also relay the developments to Hall who's still barely alive. Hall heard the news; in his head he laid down in a beautiful field. The last thing he saw was the sunlight filtered through a tree, and he passed away peacefully. (S3E06: Philip)
