An Engineer is a Traveler who builds the devices used by their team for their missions. While they have detailed knowledge of technology from the future, they carry out their tasks under the limitations of 21st century technology and make adjustments as necessary.
One of the first tasks of an Engineer upon arriving in the 21st century is to fabricate comms to establish their intra-team communication network. (S1E01: Travelers) Some missions require components to be assembled and handed over to other teams. Engineers do much of the legwork and quality control before passing the device on. (S1E04: Hall) Engineers and Historians are the more knowledge-oriented roles in the team and can collaborate as needed, like fixing a portable antimatter container or faking credentials and building the props to further the ruse.
