Derek (Traveler D-13) is a specialist who deals with advanced medical emergencies.
Averted Death[]
Nothing is known about the circumstances that turned him into a Traveler.
Biography[]
Following the crash of Flight 329, Derek and his team retrieve Grant MacLaren from the tail section wreckage and deliver him to his Ops for immediate medical treatment. When Marcy Warton calls Mac's phone, Derek answers and instructs the Core Traveler Team to deal with Kathryn MacLaren's exposure to Traveler operations.
When that's settled, Derek explains they're on a mission to keep Grant alive. He uses Trevor Holden to grow Grant's replacement organs. Later, he injects stage-3 nanites to supplement the already existing nanites' repair job. MacLaren is patched up just in the nick of time before his FBI partner Walt Forbes arrives, although Derek is forced to hide in the bathroom overseeing Marcy's last-minute fixes to Trevor.
After Forbes' departure, Derek gives MacLaren some rest and recovery advice before shaking his hand. Trevor asks for some nanites, but Derek declines because it's by Director approval only. He and his team also have to fly out of the country to save a genocidal dictator next. Derek relishes working with Marcy, empathizing with her brain damage situation and promising to help in any way he can. (S1E10: Kathryn)
Following Grace Day and Trevor's accidental shooting, Derek infiltrates their operating room and claims to be a specialist from Grace Hospital. While Grace is fibrillating, Derek secretly injects her with a nanite dosage to aid in her healing. He exits the room upon completion of the mission. (S2E01: Ave Machina)
Ignoring Jenny's instructions that it will be pictured and sent remotely, Derek proceeds to her residence to personally view the chemical formula sent to Philip Pearson via messenger. He concludes it will be difficult, but doable, to produce, and congratulates the still-dazed Historian on a good job. However, what was synthesized was not actually a flu antiviral. It is actually a Faction-made catalyst engineered to modify an existing superflu to be more virulent and lethal. Two weeks later, Derek returns to Ops to verify with Philip what they made, but he forgot due to being dosed with a memory inhibitor after writing it down. He stays a while at Ops to oversee testing and treatment plans on a very sick Victoria Boyd, and later Jenny, revealed to be a Faction mole. He learns that the Faction has been impersonating the Director and implementing their own agendas for quite some time, including his last mission. (S2E05: Jenny)
Derek eventually starts coughing and has to go back to his team. He gives Marcy a dose of nanites to help Boyd buy time. With the Director down, he figures discretion falls to him on the nanite use, and he deems Boyd a good Medic. (S2E06: U235)
